2019 Kia Optima

Drivers in Sheffield Lake find a lot to like about midsize sedans like the 2019 Kia Optima. Not only do they have plenty of space for drivers and passengers to sit comfortably, they're also efficient enough to limit stops at the pump and small enough for convenient commutes through Cleveland.

The team at Montrose Kia recommends drivers in the Lorain area give this sedan a try. Check out our 2019 Kia Optima review to learn why.

2019 Kia Optima Engine Specs

Whether you're looking for a powerful engine, an efficient drive, or something in between, the Kia Optima offers a powertrain for you. In fact, you'll have three engines to pick from:

  • 2.4L I-4: 185 horsepower, 178 lb-ft of torque. EPA-estimated 24-25 MPG city, 33-35 MPG highway1
  • 1.6L Turbocharged I-4: 178 horsepower, 195 lb-ft of torque. EPA-estimated 27 MPG city, 37 MPG highway1
  • 2.0L Turbocharged I-4: 245 horsepower, 260 lb-ft of torque. EPA-estimated 21 MPG city, 30 MPG highway1

The 2.4L and 2.0L engines come with a smooth-shifting 6-speed Sportmatic® automatic transmission that lets you take command in a limited manual mode when desired. The 2.0L engine is also paired with a sport-tuned suspension and provides a sporty ride, improved overtaking, and dynamic cornering capabilities.

The 1.6L engine is equipped with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission, which merges the efficiency of an automatic transmission with the control of a manual. This is one of the reasons why this engine gets the highest EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings out of the three.

Safety Technology

If safety is a priority to you, you'll be happy to hear that the Kia Optima earned the distinction of 2018 Top Safety Pick+ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).2 Part of the reason why it earned such high safety ratings is because of the headlights and collision mitigation technologies.

In fact, it got special recognition for its standard Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist feature. This system monitors the road ahead for slow or stopped traffic. If detected, it issues an alert and charges the brakes for emergency braking. If necessary, it'll automatically stop the car to attempt to avoid a collision.

This sedan makes several other smart safety features standard as well, including:

  • Blind Spot Collision Warning
  • Lane Change Assist
  • Rear Cross Traffic Warning
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Driver Attention Warning

It also earned its distinction for the available Dual-Projection LED Headlights with Auto-Leveling that improves your vision on dark roadways. These are partnered with available LED Front Fog Lights that help you cut through heavy fog.

If you travel along a lot of winding back roads, you'll also probably benefit from the available Low Beam Assist-Dynamic lights. These headlights track your steering to move with your car, so that you can better see what's coming around the bend.
